But ambition is only half the story. In less than a decade, we've increased our research expenditure by almost a third, from £308m in 2004/5 to £405m in 2008/9. World-leading facilities

Investing an unprecedented £650m into our infrastructure, we've one of the top educational settings in the UK with facilities that include:

• The John Rylands University Library - one of the country's largest academic libraries with the most comprehensive collection of electronic resources of any UK institution
• A wide variety of specialist libraries
• One of the largest IT resources in Europe, with over 10,000 PCs and several WiFi zones
• Specialist laboratories in each School, from industrial scale testing equipment within engineering to exceptional music studios
