With the merger of UMIST and The Victoria University of Manchester in October 2004 came a very promising opportunity - to rethink the model of a modern university and create a blueprint for the future.
This unique opportunity is being fully explored through the development of our bold and exciting plan, the Manchester 2020 Agenda. Its aim is highly ambitious, yet fully achievable - to establish and consolidate The University of Manchester as one of the top 25 universities in the world.
Vision for the future
The President and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Manchester, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, is leading the plan. It's designed to identify and achieve some significant goals for activities that touch every aspect of University life:
Over and above the reputation of our institution and academics, we encourage research that benefits society as a whole. In May 2011, we published a bold research strategy that outlined how we'll continue to achieve it. To read more, download our research strategy here.
Adding to our impressive record of achievements is the recent globally-significant discovery of Graphene and the 2011 Queen's Award for Industry. We're passionate about investing in and supporting the creation of even more world firsts. Join us now, and you'll be joining us at one of the most exciting times in our history.
